GHOST DREAM

I'm back as you can plainly see
And you thought you'd seen the last of me
an apparition or the real thing?
I'm back and here I'm standing
holding in my hand is the knife you planted
in my back, and now I brandish
the cold steel, pointing right at you
I'm back as your foil
and plotting yer demise has been my ghostly toil
and your sorrows are my ennui
Late night and your slumber
is startled by the rumble of distant thunder

Before your eyes... How can this be
Back from the grave... or just a dream?

A manifestation that you've conjured
From your imagination, how it wanders
You try to explain me away
As a bit of indigestion
More gravy than of grave but on closer inspection
the lightning's flash brings a recollection
of my face and of who I am
Pull up the blankets and recoil
A revenant returning from the soil
I've come to claim what's mine
Late night and your slumber
is startled by the rumble of distant thunder

Before your eyes... A lightning's flash
Reveals the nightmare... of your past...

Daylight gives little reprieve
Still haunted by the previous night less sleep
collect yourself, try to hide your dread
That the sun will bow its face to the moon
which the clouds will shroud in a mournful gloom
lock the latches to your lonely room

The whispering wind... Brings me again
From out the tomb or from within
